Relationships???

Just got back home after a final session with a class of 23 Executive MBA students at a leading Business Management School in Mumbai. Five late evenings, discussing relationships that have to be invested in... whether personal or in business.

My subject is Customer Relationship Management. And talking of relationship, lets listen to this 'Grandpa' song.

The 'Numbers' This Week

If you've been reading my blog, you would know by now how much I love numbers. (My very first blog out here was about Maths and Music). Well the numbers around me have grown exponentially this past week.

On Monday, I started on a new work assignment, and encountered the sheer magnitude of numbers as I returned to travel on the Mumbai Suburban train network during Rush Hour after nearly two decades. Also my new work assignment is in the area of Management Information Systems (MIS) - which means I spend the major part of the day skimming through the sea of numbers and trying to make good sense out of it. Yes, I'm working 'Eight Days A Week'

The comperes of Mumbai (Mumbai Comperes Inc) have gotten together to network and are organising their get-together later in the week. Since they attend more parties on work rather than enjoyment, all are super-excited and sharing no less that 400-500 posts on WhatsApp daily. When they do meet, they're gonna 'Rock Around the Clock', some wearing 'Blue Suede Shoes'.

After all the partying, the next morning they will hear the sweet sound of the birds chirping...Not one, not two....Three Little Birds

Not just birds outside my window.... but monkeys as well...They dropped by for lunch (fruit) a couple of times.

Got to go now, and think of ways to keep the monkeys away. Will talk other numbers later.

A Beautiful Day

I woke up early this morning at the top of a hill. It's been a long but a truly 'Beautiful Day'.

The hill I was atop was in a place called Lavale, close to Pune. This is the home of Symbiosis International University where I've visited on a few occasions over the past quarter to deliver lectures on Marketing Analytics and Customer Relationship Management to the MBA students at SIMC -Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communications.

The day had a lot of mist, a little rain and back to sunshine as I got back to Mumbai. The day saw joy of successful completion of an assignment that has brought me tremendous pleasure of sharing knowledge with this batch of future Brand, Media and PR Professionals. And feeling 'loved'.

Today also happens to be the birthday of some good friends. And some people that I would love to have as friends. Well I have this friend who's in Dubai who celebrates her 40th birthday today. Later in the day, I discovered that she was born on the same day (even the same year) as this Jazz singer from Canada, whom 'I Haven't Met Yet'.

Happy Birthday Michael Buble

Here's my version of a song that you too have covered.

HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY

A few months ago, I was invited by a couple of business schools to share my knowledge and experience in Integrated Marketing Communications with their MBA students. The opportunity to me was indeed a unique learning and growing experience.

While I started teaching professionally just over two months ago, my association with teaching goes back to before I was born. How can that be possible?

Yes. it's true. My mother is a retired teacher, and studied for her Bachelor's degree in Education while she was pregnant (with me). So that should explain my attraction to the teaching profession. Further during our toddler years, we used to have to invent games, and one of the favorites - especially during the long summer break - would be to play school.

I studied in three institutions all my life...and I'm extremely fortunate to currently have associations with two of them. My children study in the same school as I did - Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (OLPS) in Chembur. That's what gave me the chance to go back and train the choir for the school feast. I am also associated with the Management Institute I post-graduated at, since that's one of the places that I currently lecture at.

This Teacher's Day sees special felicitations at my college and B-school. While Podar College celebrates its 75th Year, so does the extra-ordinary gentleman who was Principal at my time - Prof. Sahuraja. Also today, a new and hi-tech NMIMS inaugurates the new library dedicated to Prof. Y.K. Bhushan, the Director during my time at the institute.

While I congratulate these great educationists on their achievements and contributions, I wish all the teachers who have taught me right from Kindergarten onwards - A Happy Teacher's Day.

I'd like to extend this wish beyond the boundaries of formal education to every individual who gives their time and effort to teach others something, however insignificant it may seem. And to do it in a musical way, I leave you with a song of gratitude that I sang to a teacher on the first Teacher's Day I remember... and to make it even more special, the song is sung by my six year old son.

Come September

No autumn breeze
No falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies

The verse above is how Stevie Wonder describes the month of September in "I Just Called To Say I Love You"

September is a very special month. I have two siblings whose birthdays are in this month. Besides it turns out that some of my closest friends over the years are also September born.

Did you know about the 60's movie called 'Come September'. Heard the title tune played on an EP or what were the small vinyl records that turn much faster @45rpm.

September turns out to be a much sung-of month (possibly after December). Any guesses why? While you think, maybe we should boogie.

Earth, Wind and Fire may have sung 'September', but September is important not because of the elements but due to the 'weather'. My sister whose birthday was yesterday (1st September) lives in Canada. September there is the last month of summer. Children have just gotten back to school after the holidays. And the shorter days and the falling leaves get many singers in a pensive mood. This is Willie Nelson with the "September Song".

My brother whose birthday is later in the month on 21st September recently moved to Under Down Under (New Zealand). September has a happier song there (sung by Leah Flanagan).

If you're in India (or more particularly in Mumbai), September is the month of street music with a string of festivals across religions. While some communities bid farewell to the monsoons with immersions at the major beaches, the Catholic community celebrates the birthday of Mother Mary with pilgrims thronging the Mount Mary Church in Bandra.

It doesn't matter where in the world you are or what the seasons are changing too, have a musical September.
